Plumber in Leichhardt
Our base in Haberfield is just over the canal from Leichhardt, so Leichhardt's terraces, units and strata blocks are close to home for us. Whether it is a hot water system that has given up or a sewer that backs up into the courtyard, you get a licensed plumber who explains the problem, gives you the price first and leaves the place clean.

Terraces, lanes and narrow lots
Leichhardt grew fast in the late nineteenth century. Inner West Council's study of the Leichhardt Street and Stanley Street heritage conservation area ties the suburb's growth to the years between 1871 and 1891 and the council's Leichhardt development controls describe a mix of traditional terrace housing, Federation homes and newer infill. Those terraces shape a lot of the plumbing work in the suburb.
A terrace usually means a long, narrow lot with the bathroom and laundry at the back, often added well after the house was built. Drains can run the full length of the block to reach the sewer, under a courtyard or an extension that was poured over the top. Access is often through the house or from a rear lane, which is why we plan the job before we arrive and keep the path through your home clean. Leaving the place tidy is the thing our customers mention most in their reviews.

When one drain serves more than one house
Older terrace rows were not always given a separate sewer line for each house. In some rows the drain from one house runs through the neighbour's yard or several houses share a line before it reaches Sydney Water's main. When a blockage hits a shared line, it can show up in your yard while the cause sits next door.
Before we dig or cut anything, we find out where your drain actually goes. A camera inspection shows the route and the fault and a sewer service diagram from Sydney Water's Tap in service shows how the property is recorded as connected. Sydney Water's guide to repairs says the property owner is responsible for their connection to the public system, including tree roots that get into the junction there. Knowing whose pipe has the fault saves an argument over the fence and stops you paying for a repair that belongs to someone else.
Sandstone, slopes and stormwater
Leichhardt's development controls note shallow soils with sandstone and rock outcrops and a series of north to south ridgelines that drop down into valleys and drainage lines. For plumbing that means two things. Digging out a broken drain can hit rock close to the surface, so we always try to find the exact fault with a camera before anyone picks up a shovel. And in heavy rain, homes lower on a slope can see stormwater test an old pit or downpipe connection that copes fine on a dry day.
If water is pooling against a wall, coming up through a courtyard drain or spilling from a downpipe in a storm, call us. We clear the blockage, find where the water is going wrong and tell you what will stop it happening again.
Units and strata blocks in Leichhardt
The same council controls describe Leichhardt as having medium-density residential areas alongside its houses so a good deal of Leichhardt plumbing happens in units. In a strata building a leak rarely stays in one unit. Water from a shower above can show up as a stain in the ceiling below and a blocked stack can affect every unit on the line.
For strata managers and committees we work the way you need: we report what we found with photos, separate what is common property from what belongs to the lot owner and send a clear invoice. Our strata plumbing page explains how we look after buildings and maintenance plumbing covers scheduled checks for owners and property managers.

Leichhardt plumbing questions
Who is responsible for a blocked sewer in a Leichhardt terrace?
Sydney Water says the property owner is responsible for their own private pipes and the connection to the public sewer, including roots in the junction. If the blockage is in a line shared with neighbours, a camera inspection showing exactly where the fault sits gives everyone on that line the facts they need to agree on the repair. If the fault is in Sydney Water's main, we tell you and you report it to them.
Can you work on a terrace with no rear lane access?
Yes. Many terrace jobs mean carrying gear through the house, so we keep the path clear and clean up as we go. If a job needs bigger equipment we tell you before the day.
Do you do plumbing for units and strata buildings in Leichhardt?
Yes. We work for owners, tenants, strata managers and property managers. See our strata plumbing page for how we report and invoice strata work.
